Probably not the best built item on the planet; it is not a heavy piece, and the wood is quite thin. Think, like, those old balsa-wood toy airplane gliders, and you know how easy those were to snap! Alright, it's not THAT thin, but it IS very thin. I wouldn't sit on it or allow children to climb on it, or place anything heavy like a TV or anything on it, as I don't believe it could take much weight. But it definitely is an aesthetically pleasing piece and compliments my medium oak and brown leather-like furniture beautifully. It pulls the room together. And since my living room is not used all that often, and is NEVER used as a rec room or play room (we have an adult household), it will suit my purpose just fine. Be aware that the trunk "lid" does not lift; instead, there is a drawer in the front (extending between buckles in the picture) that pulls out with the leather "handle".
