This 36" x 36" (3ft. x 3ft.) traditional Japanese design tatami mat is a remarkable product, one of a collection 8 sizes we sell on Amazon. Customers use them for simple, natural, portable, practical (& decorative) purposes; here's some examples a.) a simple square table top, b.) an altenative chair, with a cushion, c.) center 3 foot square of a traditional Japanese floor covering configuration of classic rectangular 6 foot or 7 foot long tatami mats, d.) in sets of two, as a simple, fold- up single bed platform, e.) flat against the wall, as a simple chair back or headboard. When buying tatami mats to build a platform bed, note 2 of our 36" x 84" mats is perfect California King size, 2 of our 30" x 80" work perfectly for standard US queen size, and 2 of our 38" x 80" are perfect for a standard US King. We also sell tatami mats sized to fit Euro full, queen, and king, note that our Euro full, at 28.5" x 78.7 is the best pair for a standard US full, though slightly oversize. This tatami mat is as described. It's just a 3 foot mat and the quality seems ok. Unfortunately the size ended up being a little off for what we needed and we found out too late that the seller has a 14 day return limit rather than the 30 day policy that Amazon has. Upon finding this out we asked Oriental Furniture if we could return for store credit instead of refund. They said no. Just be wary when you buy products from Vendors that are not directly from Amazon. Other vendors are not as willing to keep customers. The mat gives off a grass scent that isn't exactly subtle, but not necessarily strong either. If you live in a humid area the grass scent might be slightly pronounced. After we couldn't return it we took it out of the box & left it in a small bedroom for the weekend. When we came back after the weekend the entire room smelled like the Mat. This is my 3rd purchase of a tatami mat. I bought two of these this time so that if I traveled somewhere they would easily fit in the back seat and could be easily carried. They are of high quality and very durable. It is very soothing to lay on because of the aroma they emit. They always arrive ahead of schedule.
