Pricey, but a beautiful little piece of furniture,

We thought about ordering this on Amazon, but oddly enough, the price (for Amazon stocked/ Amazon Prime) keeps going up. It started off at $509, then $549, and now it is a whopping $645. I flagged cheaper sites to Amazon, but apparently they didn't care. I didn't feel safe ordering it from just any faraway seller because of the high price (what if it arrived damaged? At its size and weight it would be a hassle to return), and because I wanted to be sure the mechanics worked smoothly (which may not happen if I assembled it myself). Moreover, the 2 sites that I went to that sold it for under $500 got bad consumer reviews... shipments arriving very late, damages, etc.
Anyway, because of all of this I ended up buying it from my neighborhood Raymour & Flannigan. I was resigned to pay $550 all in all, which is an additional $50 from the cheapest I could find online. This is an excellent table. First off, the lift top is extremely sturdy. We shopped for several months at local furniture stores and could not find any tables that even came close to how sturdy this one is. Once lifted, there is no worries that the top will collapse down. Also, if you try and shake the table from the side (once lifted), there is very little give. The lift top is very easy to lift and put down and glides smoothly (i.e.- once you decide to lower it, it doesn't just drop, but slowly lowers down with ease).
The slate/stone top is a little bit deceiving. It looks and feels just like stone. However, it is actually a composite of acrylic, plastic, and some other stuff I've never heard of. That being said, I wouldn't let it deter you like it almost did us. It is very sturdy, can handle all types of materials, and behaves just like stone.
The table itself is quite heavy (as most lift tops have to be). This leads to some issues moving the table...Read more

Love the furniture, assembly went well, but the screws were not marked for where they went. As a result we screwed in two long screws where they should have been short. Turned the table over and we had gone THROUGH the wood. Emailed customer service at manufacturer and have not received a reply in two weeks.
