Sleeping Buddha Accent Sculpture

I thought this piece looked really nice in the photo. When I pulled it out of its protective styrofoam shell, the smell of chemicals almost knocked me over. There was also a warning tag telling me that I should wash my hands after handling it because it contains lead, which is know to cause cancer in the state of California. Fortunately for me I live in Texas. I washed my hands anyway, just to be on the safe side. The "glass accents" are buried in some sort of clear plastic looking substance, and they make the sculpture look ultra tacky. From a distance of 10 or more feet it's mediocre at best, but up close it's not at all attractive. I'll be checking the company's return policy and finding something that doesn't look like it came from Hobby Lobby.

We got this sculpture a few months back, and two families have already bought this also. A third has been asking my mother where it was from. The mosaic glass border is very pretty and colorful. The detail is nice. We love it, and bought one for a housewarming - and they loved it too.

I'm not sure if the other reviewer was joking (causing cancer in the state of California, but she washed her hands anyways???). Ours never smelled, even a little bit. There are a lot of things that have lead in them (glazed ceramics, glass) - you just have to use them correctly. California has rules that make you openly state everything that may cause cancer... it's not like there is lead dust on it (I suspect it is the glass that contains lead).

This is a beautifull statue of the sleeping Buddha, nice size, perfet to be on top of a sofa table. I love this item, it's better than expected!
